Usually, when comparing only the price, renting seems more expensive than buying. But when you take into account what is included in a rental price, renting is still an interesting option:

• no purchase systems
• Provision of one or more consignment stocks
• Daily collection of used contaminated material and delivery of hygienic material
• Professional disinfection, functional testing of the material, maintenance and, if necessary, repair
• Packaging
• Administration, follow-up and invoicing

When renting equipment, an institution no longer needs to purchase, maintain, monitor, clean and manage its own systems. And it has the certainty that the equipment is disinfected after each patient. This reduces the risk of transferable infections.

When purchasing and wanting optimum functionality and lifespan, a number of internal processes need to be installed.

As long as an institution is relatively small and there is good internal logistical follow-up, purchasing and internal management can be an option. But if the institution reaches a certain size or cannot do the follow-up internally, it is good to evaluate these factors well.
